Small book, big thinking

A slender volume heavy with thought-provoking content. I'm in the process of reading it again. It has been a helpful book for me — I was an ignored child, neglected, a seven on the trauma scale. I raised myself like many do in those circumstances. I bought the book because I am continuing to investigate how I adapted in a childhood that lacked unconditional love, protection and useful guidance — and what it means to my adult behavior patterns. Thank you to the author for being fearlessly curious about these schemas.

The absolutely perfect primer on a complex topic, made accessible to just about everyone with the high school degree. I found the tables and diagrams summarizing and comparing various aspects of this complex topic simple, powerful, and memorable.

Emotional Intelligence 2026 reinterpreted for those who grew up with Trauma and ADHD
Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2026 · Format: Kindle
J.S. Gilbert has written the most important follow up to Daniel Coleman 1995 landmark book Emotional Intelligence. This book strips away all of the blindfolds many tried to see through but couldn't see themselves in his seminal work. This book is the first to rip away the blanket confusing PTSD with TBI. This is a must read for all who suffered trauma as an adolescent and those who have ever had their bell rung.

An insightful interpretation of the long term effects of trauma from an author who has experienced as well as studied it. I found the material relatable, relevant, and without the usual condescension from authors with a PHD behind their name.
