JS Gilbert

JS Gilbert has voiced several hundred characters over a career spanning games, animation and commercial work, including Sweet Tooth in Twisted Metal. He has also written magazine articles, radio and television advertising, white papers, and jokes for speakers, politicians and professional comedians — three audiences with more overlap than anybody wants to admit.

Growing up and well into adulthood, he was labeled with dissociative disorder, ODD, ADHD, depression and twice exceptional, among others. Nobody ever explained how those labels related to one another, or what the sharpened attention and instinct underneath them were actually for.

He wrote The Different Me: Discovering Your Traumatic Intelligence because the plain-language version of that explanation did not exist, and he got tired of waiting for somebody else to write it. The book names Traumatic Intelligence: the heightened awareness, pattern recognition, emotional sensitivity, survival instinct and adaptive thinking that a life that did not go smoothly can leave behind.

He is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he continues to work as a voice actor, writer and creative director.
